German Zapata was a Colombian drug trafficker who smuggled cocaine into the United States via Miami, Florida. Zapata was assassinated by the Medellin Cartel in Miami in 1981 as he was making a drug deal with undercover DEA agents.

German Zapata was a Colombian who owned a plumbing business that acted as a front for his cocaine operation, and he smuggled cocaine into the Port of Miami in Florida while serving as Mateo Moreno's dealer. In 1981, he headed to a drug deal with undercover DEA operatives Steve Murphy and Kevin Brady at a parking garage in Miami, but the sting went wrong when Pablo Escobar's hitman Juan Diego Diaz "la Quica" shot Zapata and Brady dead in a drive-by shooting with an Uzi.
